Spring in Texas it is not uncommon for us to enjoy several weeks of warm, Spring-like weather then a late frost that can kill or damage many plants we have planted in the fall. This can be prevented by covering small plants with a cloth or plastic during the cooler weather.
Summer - In the effort of water conservation, remember to water your lawn approximately every third day of the week. One may think this would not be adequate, however remember to water deeply and evenly, at 4-6 inches below the soil. This will promote root growth and reduce the stress caused by summer drought. Early morning is the best watering time. During the "peak time" between 4:00pm- 9:00pm should always be avoided.
During the hot summer months, also remember mulching at least 3-4 inches deep helps encourage soil moisture and temperature, also deterring weed growth.
